Ebook About Eve Dallas deals with a homicide—and the holiday season—in this thrilling In Death novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb.Personal trainer Trey Ziegler was in peak physical condition. If you didn’t count the kitchen knife in his well-toned chest.Lieutenant Eve Dallas soon discovers a lineup of women who were loved and left by the narcissistic gym rat. While Dallas sorts through the list of Ziegler’s enemies, she’s also dealing with her Christmas shopping list—plus the guest list for her and her billionaire husband’s upcoming holiday bash.Feeling less than festive, Dallas tries to put aside her distaste for the victim and solve the mystery of his death. There are just a few investigating days left before Christmas, and as New Year’s 2061 approaches, this homicide cop is resolved to stop a cold-blooded killer.Book Festive in Death (In Death, Book 39) Review :
This was an interesting book because I didn't feel for the initial victim as I usually do when Eve first comes across them. I would never have pegged a certain person, not to give away that detail for others' reading pleasure, to find the first DB, but it was funny when Lieutenant Dallas came on scene and started getting into it with the other person. Afterward, the plot becomes convoluted while Dallas and Peabody try to find Trey Zeigler's murderer, whom no one liked and held grudges against. There was plenty of Roarke in here too and I think something about this particular case got to them both because Eve is a bit mellowed than usual with him alone. With everyone else, she's just as brusque and standoffish as usual. It's not to say that she doesn't also have her moments with Roarke, but they get resolved quicker than usual because she gets a renewed sense of him as her husband, her faithful partner in all things, after seeing how badly gone astray other people's marriages can get.The Christmas party in the middle is just icing on the cake and I can't wait to see Delia more in her new pink leather coat. It's just funny how much that odd color gets under Eve's skin until she ends up gritting her teeth. But it's fun, too, seeing her deepen those relationships with friends and her husband, to know that, no matter what happens, she has people she can rely on during the worst situations. And now to see what's next. I love the In Death series but I do wonder if Nora Roberts writes them herself or if she uses a ghost writer(s), or both. Periodically I've come across a book that just doesn't have the same feel as the majority of the series; as if it's written by someone else. Festive in Death is definitely one of those books. Eve's personality was quite a bit different. Twice in the book she was in tears over sentimental things. Definitely not Eve. Her normal style of investigation was totally off. In other books she spends a decent amount of time pondering the possibilities, running probabilities, examining her murder board... In this book there is a token comment about her setting up a murder book and board then another token comment about the probabilities agreeing. A percentage number is given for the probability then the story moves on.Eve's usual comments about not understanding idioms fell flat. They felt like they were just thrown out to try to make the character Eve-like but didn't really flow with the story. The plot misdirect was so heavy-handed that it was obvious who the murderer was. Even the interaction between Eve and Summerset was boring. Then there was the crudity of saying that a beauty product looked like "cum". I don't think I've seen that type of base attitude in any of the other books.Change the names of the characters in this book and it could have been any generic romance novel. Yes, romance, not crime. Whoever wrote this book did not capture the unique personalities that have been built up over time. Unfortunately you can tell it's off right from the start and it never gets better.
